Sill Tray Module 225

The same tray as a module, 225 mm long, with a dovetail at each end and a moulded gasket rebate. Key as many together as the sill is long, up to about six, and cap the run with a plain end piece. It exists because sills are never a standard length and because the printer stops at 300 mm, so the honest answer to a 1.2 metre window is six parts rather than one impossible one.

Make yours

Tell us the size and this gets drawn to it.

This one is made to order rather than configured on screen: number of modules and end caps moves from 1 to 6. Send a photo of the plant and the spot it has to live in, with the code PP-SL-225M, and a size and a drawing come back the same day. 6 to 10 days from there.

What stays as drawn
Module length, width, lip height and dovetail geometry stay as drawn so that any two modules ever printed will still key together. A non-standard final module can be cut to length between 120 and 225 mm to finish a run exactly.

PETG, printed; Silicone gasket cord in the dovetail rebate, bought in

unpigmented natural, warm white, pale sand (pale sand as standard)

These are the figures the piece is drawn to rather than measurements taken off a finished one. Send the pot it has to replace and we will move them.

What it suits

Suits

  • Long window runs
  • Mixed collections of small pots
  • Propagation pots lined up in a bright window

Not for

  • Use as a planter
  • A sill with a pronounced slope, where a long rigid run will rock on two points

Check the sill is flat before ordering more than three modules.

Why it is that shape

Modularity is a manufacturing constraint made visible instead of hidden. The build envelope is 300 mm, sills are not, and a joint you can see is better than a part that warps. Everything else about it, the ribs and the lip, is the same argument as the single tray: pot bases out of standing water so the pots above can breathe.

Looking after it

Break the run and empty the modules rather than trying to tip a 1.3 metre tray. Re-seat the gasket cord if a joint starts to weep; it is a consumable and a replacement length ships with every order over three modules.

Pale only, for the same reason as the Sill Tray 280: a south-facing Yerevan sill in July is a genuine thermal test, dark pigments run hotter under direct beam, and PETG's useful ceiling is around 70 C. Colours fade under sustained UV and this is not sold as colourfast or as outdoor rated.
